Full Bio
FXTRT, pronounced as foxtrot, is a Math Pop band from Singapore.
Conceptualized and formed in 2014 by course mates Ming, Kadir and James in Republic Polytechnic, the band was completed when Jack joined shortly after.
Music has always been their passion,
though coming as close seconds would be their love for prata, cats, and all things Japan.
Much like Singaporean Rojak, FXTRT blends a myriad of influences,
ranging from the likes of Elephant Gym to Dance Gavin Dance.
They sprinkle their songs with singing guitar melodies, raw and emotional vocals,
and tongue-in-cheek lyrics over a robust rhythm to get one’s head bobbing.
FXTRT has played a number of shows,
from Baybeats 2017, Hundred Bands, *Scape Confessions to Lithe House’s Sound of Feeling #24.
They also released an EP in May 2016 titled “Palette”,
and an animated music video for their first single, Elephants, was released on March in the same year.
In the middle of 2017, FXTRT released another single, ‘Maggie’ from their sophomore EP
and released their sophomore EP, ‘Bento Set A’ on 30th June at Lithe House.
With the release of ‘Bento Set A’,
FXTRT promises new and fresh tunes that best showcases their sound, direction and antics.
FXTRT was also part of the Baybeats Budding Programme of 2017
and took on the Arena Stage on 14th July.
FXTRT presents a mix of both upbeat music to groove to,
and more relaxed tunes to invoke introspection in their audience.
While most popular music focuses on emotions - in particular, the happy/sad polarity -
FXTRT has always strived for relevance to the world not just within us but around us as well.
Often, humour lends itself to discussing serious themes such as
sexuality, betrayal, and the human mindset.
Though the world is a serious place,
they hope to share with listeners that they do not always have to look at it through those lenses.
2017 had been a great year to FXTRT but it is only the beginning.
2018 promises new materials to jam to.
These unreleased finger snapping tunes will be premiered at upcoming shows in 2018.
